I’m a health reporter at the Fort Worth Report in Fort Worth, Texas. Before this, you could find me editing graphics at the Missourian, analyzing data for The Kansas City Beacon and occasionally drawing bunnies

My journalism is trauma-informed. For my master’s thesis, I researched what it’s like for ordinary people to be in the news. Before that, I wrote about food insecurity among Missouri families, a rise in local HIV diagnoses and why it’s hard for people to come together around community policing — among other stories in public health and social equity.

When I’m not in the newsroom, I’m in the classroom. I’ve taught journalism at The School of the New York Times, public speaking at the University of Missouri, and English and journalism at Oak Park High School in Ventura County, California. I also helped students apply for college with College Essay Guy

Finally, I have my master’s in journalism from the Missouri School of Journalism and my bachelor’s in creative writing from Pepperdine University, but my most formative education took place in Iraq.
